Common Mutable Instruments Plaits Questions
How do I control Plaits with MIDI?
Plaits receives MIDI note, velocity, and CC messages through its mini-jack MIDI input using a standard MIDI to TRS adapter (Type A). The MIDI channel is set via a hidden menu; hold the timbre button for a few seconds, then use the model button to select the MIDI channel, and the Harmonics knob to set the channel number (1-16).
Can I save and recall presets or kits on Plaits?
No, Plaits does not have any internal memory for saving presets or kits; you'll need to recreate your desired sounds each time or use external modules for storing snapshots of its parameters.
How do I select different synthesis models on Plaits?
Press the MODEL button to cycle through the available synthesis algorithms. Each press advances to the next model in the list, indicated by the LEDs surrounding the MODEL button.
My Plaits is outputting a very quiet or distorted signal. What could be wrong?
Check your VCA settings (attenuation/gain) or if the output signal is being clipped. Some models, especially when modulated heavily, can output very hot signals that require attenuation before reaching your mixer.
What is the 'Morph' input used for, and what does it do?
The Morph input provides voltage control over a parameter specific to each of Plaits' synthesis models, adding a unique dimension of expression. Consult the Plaits manual to learn what the Morph input controls for each individual model, as it varies widely.
